My name is Markus Schar and I run marathons and ultramarathons to raise funds for The Fred Hollows Foundation, Australia. I also guide visually impaired runners.
Around 50% of blindness in the world is caused by cataracts. This can be overcome with a relatively simple operation taking approximately 20 minutes and costing as little as A$25.
During all my runs, whether it is in my hometown Sydney, across Australia or somewhere around the globe, I see amazing landscapes and scenery. Seeing is something that makes my running enjoyable. Too often we take seeing for granted, and we forget that millions of people loose their sight because of poor nutrition or other unnecessary illnesses.
